NextDC goes carbon neutral

Data centre operator NextDC's corporate operations have been certified carbon neutral under the Australian Government's National Carbon Offset Standard.

NextDC's NCOS certification has been achieved through an agreement to acquire carbon offset credits from the Qantas Future Planet carbon offset program.

Qantas Future Planet is involved in carbon offsets projects in places including Tasmania, the North Kimberley, and Papua New Guinea.

NextDC plans to enable its customers to opt-in to an NCOS-compliant colocation program.

{loadposition stephen08}"NextDC supports the science of climate change and we're not afraid of using that conviction to show others how our business interests can help create a better future for all," said chief executive Craig Scroggie.

"We build and operate a national footprint of Australia's most energy efficient data centres which serves as a reminder that organisations can be engineered to both support the environment and improve business efficiencies.

NextDC recently achieved a 5-star NABERS energy efficiency rating for its M1 facility in Melbourne and has also achieved 4.5 stars for its S1 facility in Sydney.

The company said its second-generation data centres (B2 Brisbane, M2 Melbourne and S2 Sydney) would be even more energy efficient, "showcasing world-leading engineering never before seen".
