TechnologyOne has implemented NetApp Private Storage (NPS) on a FlexPod data centre platform with MetroCluster to help reduce costs and increase performance for its global customers.
TechnologyOne, claimed as Australia's largest enterprise software company with offices in six countries, says it selected NetApp to Improve the profitability and efficiency of its SaaS Cloud Offering.
TechnologyOne R&D group director of cloud Iain Rouse says its software powers a diverse range of customers which include more than 1000 leading corporations, government departments, financial institutions, universities and statutory authorities around the world.
According to Rouse, in 2011, TechnologyOne saw the future was in cloud-based solutions, and made the strategic investment to invest in moving its successful enterprise solution to a Software as a Service (SaaS) offering – and by delivering its enterprise SaaS, customers would “no longer have to worry about the complexity of running or updating their software and infrastructure, with TechnologyOne taking care of all of that for them”.
“As many of TechnologyOne’s customers have seasonal workloads, for example universities who have students registering for courses during the year, it needed a storage solution that could react in real-time. In addition, many of its customers are global with data being accessed worldwide, so it required a highly efficient solution for stored data.

Rouse says that TechnologyOne also wanted to adopt a multi-cloud approach without increasing costs or complexity, given its customers were beginning to demand alternate cloud solutions.
TechnologyOne says, for these reasons, it has worked with NetApp to develop the “TechnologyOne MetroPod”, a combination of proven technologies including NetApp Private Storage for Cloud, FlexPod, and MetroCluster hosted within Equinix’s data centre.
“We are able to take our current 99.999% ‘resiliency’ from AWS to 99.999% of ‘availability’ using the MetroPod architecture,” Rouse notes.
“We anticipate seeing significant savings over the next few years as well as a significant reduction in our backup and recovery times.
"Most importantly, TechnologyOne is now able to manage, move, protect and share data whenever needed through a data fabric.”

Manley says additional benefits TechnologyOne has experienced include an 85% reduction of production data with NetApp deduplication and FlexClone technology, improving the performance tenfold of AWS’s fastest storage tier with NPS for AWS, and the ability for its customers to prove sovereignty of data to Australian regulators.
“This also makes TechnologyOne future-ready by reducing the risk with NPS for Cloud, making it now able to support alternate cloud solutions,” Manmley concludes.
